General Questions

How do I start designing my custom closet?
The first step in designing your custom closet organizer is to measure the closet so you know how much space you have to work with. Click here for a brief video describing the most accurate way to measure your closet.

Are your closet systems wall mounted?
We offer both wall mounted and floor mounted closet organizers. Our standard organizers are mounted to the wall for ease of installation.

Are all closet organizers 84 inches tall?
The industry standard is for the top shelf of the closet system to be mounted at 84 inches from the floor. That being said, there are several situations when this is either not possible or not desirable. When a walk in closet has a short wall due to a roof line a shorter section can used. We also have a 93 inch tall floor mount closet system that works especially well in closets with high ceilings. If you have more questions about your space call us at 800-609-7258.

What materials do you build your closets out of?
We use only the highest quality materials to build your custom closet organizer. We use furniture grade melamine coated particle board that is compliant with the California Air Resources Board’s Phase 2 requirements. Our closet rods are solid aluminum extrusions and will not warp or bow. Our baskets, accessories, and drawers are the highest grade we could find on the market. In short we have searched exhaustively for the highest quality components in every category and used them exclusively in our designs.

How much should I spend on a custom closet organizer?
How much you should spend is a very subjective thing. Closet organizers range from a single rod with a shelf above it to hand made solid wood cabinetry. I would recommend using our online closet design tool and watching the price change as you make changes to your closet system.

How deep are your shelves?
All of our closet systems are 14 inches deep. Many closet companies are transitioning to 12 inch deep organizers, but we find that this is simply not adequate.

Can I upgrade my closet organizer in the future?
Absolutely! We know that your needs change over time and so our closet organizers are designed to change with you. To make your organizer as flexible as possible try to keep as many sections as possible in 18, 24, or 30 inch widths as these are widths that will accommodate closet rods, shelves, shoe shelves, drawers, and baskets.

Ordering & Shipping

How do I order a custom closet organizer?
To order your custom closet organizer from ClosetDesigner.com either design your own closet using our online closet design tool, or call us at 800-609-7258 and we will design a custom closet organizer for you to review. I have almost completed my closet design, but there are a few changes I would like to make. What should I do?
Save your design and call us at 800-609-7258 and we will help you make the final modifications so that you can review them before you place the final order. This way you know exactly what you’re getting and there are no surprises when your packages arrive.

How do you ship closet organizers?
All orders are shipped UPS Parcel service by standard ground service. A typical shipment is 14 boxes that weigh between 20 and 70 lbs each. Our UPS driver is the hardest working person in the shipping business and we try to treat him well!

Do I have to have my closet organizers delivered to my home address? Do I have to be there when my closets arrive?
Closets can be delivered to your home, business, or other address. If the address you request your closet is delivered to is different than the address your credit card statement is sent we may contact you to verify your identity. UPS will deliver your closet without a signature if they feel the packages will be safe. If for any reason they do not feel comfortable leaving the packages without your signature they will leave a notice that they had been there with a number that you can call to make delivery arrangements.

If I order my closet today, when will it be here?
All closets will leave our facility within 6 business days of having received the order. Transit times can be anywhere from 1 day to 7 days depending on how far you are from our manufacturing facility in northeast Indiana.

What do I do if my order is damaged during shipping?
While we take every precaution to make sure every part is protected during shipping there are times when shipping damage does occur. If you receive damaged parts call us immediately at 800-609-7258 and we will have replacement parts expedited through our production system and shipped ASAP at no cost to you. We may ask for pictures of the damaged packaging and boxes so that our packaging engineers can continuously improve upon our packaging design.

Where do you ship?
We are currently able to ship anywhere in the continental United States. We are currently looking into the possibility of delivering to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. If you live in one of these areas and would like to order a closet please contact us at 800-609-7258 or by email at: info@closetdesigner.com.

Is it possible to expedite an order?
While it is sometimes possible to expedite the manufacturing of a closet organizer, expediting the shipping is cost prohibitive. If you have an absolute closet emergency call us at 800-609-7258 and we can discuss every possibility for expediting the order.

Installation & Support

Can I really install a custom closet?
Yes! Assembling a ClosetDesigner.com custom closet organizer is an easy do-it-yourself project. We have spent extra time designing the closet system so that it is as easy as possible. Still not convinced? Watch this video showing the step by step installation of a walk-in closet organizer.

What tools are required to install your closet system?
You will need a tape measure, level, cordless drill, and phillips screw driver to install your custom closet system. Some closets may also need a rubber mallet to install angled shoe shelves and a hack saw if your measurements when designing the closet were a little off.

What cutting will I have to do?
The vast majority of all closets require no cutting at all. If your wall is slightly shorter than the dimension given when you designed your closet you may have to trim the hang rail and rail cover. This can be done with a hack saw and the cut edge will be covered so if the cut is less than perfect there is no need to worry. The only other cut that may need made is a small section of baseboard on floor mount closets.

I don’t have drywall with wood studs, can I still install one of your wall mount closets?
Our closets can be installed on drywall on wooden studs, drywall on metal studs, plaster and lath, concrete block, and almost any other wall surface you have in your home. We include the necessary hardware for drywall and wooden stud walls. If you have another kind of wall structure we suggest a trip to your local hardware store where you can discuss the proper type of fastener for your specific situation with one of their experts.

What should I use to clean my custom closet?
A standard glass cleaning solution works well to clean all of the different materials that come with your closet organizer. We strongly suggest not using anything abrasive or any products that contain bleach or solvents as these can damage the surfaces of many of the materials in the closet. Furniture polishes can be used, but we caution against it as many of these polishes contain waxes and oils that may transfer to your clothes.

Will my closet organizer come with a warranty?
All closets sold come with a warranty for as long as you own your home. For more details read the full warranty.
